From its first €101 million Fund I launched in 2019, NordicNinja has made tens of investments, three of which have achieved unicorn status, with a handful showing similar potential.
The portfolio includes companies that transformed industries including Bolt, Einride, Veriff, Voi, Starship, ClimateView, Kognic, Mavenoid, Pactum, Varjo, DappRadar and Ready Player Me.
Half of the first fund’s investments are in mobility and transportation – an area with a massive carbon footprint, as well as inefficiency and poor user experience.
NordicNinja is a team with a global mindset that unites world-class former founders, operators, and engineers turned investors from Northern Europe and Japan. With engineering backgrounds and long-standing experience in green energy, the partners have a wealth of experience.
The team has significant experience from angel investing and managing a Japanese clean energy investment fund. They have made more than 80 partner-level investments and over 20 angel investments globally.

NordicNinja’s second fund launched in 2023 is an Article 8 fund under the Sustainable Finance Disclosure Regulation – a fund that promotes environmental or social characteristics and invests in companies that follow good governance practices.

The story goes back to 2019, when a global venture was set to feed Japan’s hunger for digital innovation. NordicNinja VC was established to operate locally to invest in the most promising technology companies and scale these internationally.
Japan has a budding startup ecosystem, yet not big enough to feed the market’s hunger for digital innovation.
Northern Europe, especially the Nordics and the Baltics have been at the forefront of digitalization, has a thriving startup ecosystem, and has become a hotbed for international talent.
NordicNinja was therefore launched as a joint partnership between JBIC IG Partners from Japan and BaltCap based in Europe. With our family of global Japanese experts, including several large enterprises from Japan, and the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC), the NordicNinja team helps Northern European startups scale globally.
