Headquartered in Oslo, Norway, Photoncycle is building a distributed storage infrastructure to support Europe’s renewable energy transition. Its integrated system, combining solar generation, energy processing, and underground storage, is currently being piloted with major builders as the company advances toward broader commercial deployment.
Photoncycle develops solid-state hydrogen energy storage systems that allow households and businesses to store surplus solar power generated in summer and use it during winter. Addressing the core challenge of renewable energy — seasonal variability — the company’s patented technology converts excess electricity into solid-state hydrogen, stored safely underground and capable of holding up to 10,000 kWh of energy. The stored energy is later released as clean heat and power when needed, significantly reducing reliance on the grid and lowering overall energy costs.
